Evolution

Recently, some friends and I have been swapping DVDs and watching episodes of old SF shows from the 70s and 80s. Back when we were kids, Buck Rogers was a great show. Looking back on it 30 years later… well… as one friend put it, “God, if not for Erin Gray this show would be

What Ifs

I’ve been re-watching Deep Space 9.  It’s arguably the best series of the (post-1960s) Star Trek franchise, and definitely my favorite. This evening, I watched the episode “Battle Lines“.  As with many of the first-season episodes, it’s a bit simplistic.  It’s an obvious morality play about the nature of war.  However… there’s something deeper.  The

The Corporate Mindset

SyFy announced this week that Stargate: Universe is cancelled after this season is over.  While I have a number of criticisms about the show, it’s still one of the better science fiction shows on TV–and it’s just starting to find it’s feet. Following up on characters… Recently, I pulled out my Battlestar Galactica DVDs and rewatched the entire series, from beginning to end–including that abomination known as “The Plan”. I’m also a fan of Stargate: Universe (sometimes jokingly referred to as “Stargate: Galactica”). It’s fairly easy to compare the two, and many people have done so–usually to

Bear McCready Insprires Trilobytes Writing is hard work.  Anyone who’s ever written a term paper knows that.  Creative writing is even harder; you can’t just rewrite a Wikipedia article in your own words.  🙂 In order to write a good story, you need to be able to get yourself into a proper headspace.  Every writer

A Brief Repose

Nov 16th, 2010 | By

The blog has been silent for a couple of days, but that’s just because I’ve been busy with other creative projects.  The forums, however, have some new–and insightful–posts.  And there’s big things happening behind the scenes. An interesting story broke today–one which ties in very closely with one of the Trilobyte projects:  Gemini Colony.   A
